Women's Tennis Hosting Saturday Doubleheader

STARKVILLE - Mississippi State's women's tennis team is set to face Memphis and Louisiana in a doubleheader on Saturday.

The Bulldogs square off against Memphis at 11 a.m. and meet the Ragin' Cajuns at 3 p.m. There will be a raffle for a $50 Visa gift card between the two matches and free pom-poms for fans.

MSU will try to continue its success from the season opener last Saturday. The Bulldogs took down Jacksonville State in a decisive 7-0 win in front a record-setting crowd. It was State's 47^th consecutive non-conference victory at home under head coach Daryl Greenan.

Senior Magda Adaloglou shined in the victory as the 67^th-ranked singles player dominated her match 6-2, 6-1 and, along with doubles partner Chloé Cirotte to form the 28^th-ranked doubles team, won in convincing fashion 6-1.

No. 50 Emmanouela Antonaki showed her mettle in her singles match, winning the tiebreaker to secure the first set 7-6(3) and took over to secure the second set 6-2.

Memphis has posted a 3-0 record and had its match against Ole Miss postponed on Friday. The Tigers are led by fifth-year senior Camila Romero, who is ranked No. 95 in singles by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).

Louisiana's matchup with MSU will serve as their season opener as it seeks to improve upon a solid 9-6 record last season.

Mississippi State has quite a bit of history with both Memphis and Louisiana. The Bulldogs have won 15 straight against the Tigers dating back to 1982 with the last victory being a 6-1 decision last season in Starkville. Similarly, the Bulldogs are riding a 20-game winning streak against the Ragin' Cajuns dating back to 1978. MSU last played Louisiana-Lafayette in 2017.

State also hosted most of Memphis' roster during the fall for the John Cade Invitational.

In accordance with Mississippi State University's indoor mask requirement announced on Jan. 7, all individuals must wear face coverings inside all university buildings, including athletic facilities effective Jan. 10 through Feb. 1. The requirement applies to all fans attending basketball games at Humphrey Coliseum and tennis matches at the Rula Indoor Pavilion except while actively eating or drinking.
