March 15, 2021 | Men's Golf
OPELIKA, Ala. – Inclement weather forced a shotgun start at the Tiger Invitational on Monday as the teams competing completed 36 holes on the first day.
Â
Mississippi State's men's team teed off on the back nine and completed the first round tied for 10th place with an even-par 288. The team carded the same for the second round to post a 36-hole total of 576.
Â
Ford Clegg led the Bulldogs, finishing the first round at 3-under 69 to tie for eighth place. He shot three birdies through four holes to open Round 2 and four more on the front nine to round off a 4-under performance. He sits in a tie for 12th place.
Â
Austin Vukovits, playing as an individual, got off to a great start and finished the first round at 1-over 73. He birdied Hole 5 in the second round to finish tied for 57th. Hunter Logan shot an even 72 with five birdies in the first round to finish in the top half of the field. He started the second round shooting even through eight holes and moved to 1-under following a birdie on Hole 4. He carded three more to finish the round tied for 23rd at 2-under.
Â
"I thought we were really close to playing some great golf today," head coach Dusty Smith said. "We made a few too many double-bogeys as a team, and that stalled us out a bit. I'm really proud of Ford and Hunter for how they handled the day. There are lots of positives I see from this group. We just have to continue getting better daily and holding ourselves to the absolute highest standard."
Â
Austin Fulton shot evenly through the back nine but bogeyed Hole 2 to finish the first round at 73. He birdied the 14th hole early in Round 2 but carded a 6-over 77 to land in a tie for 70th. Â Garrett Johnson was 2-over par for the first round. He shot even through the first six holes of the second round, battling back some to finish tied for 50th with a 1-over 73.
Â
Loïc Ettlin carded at 4-over 76 for the first round and a 2-over 74 in the second to tie with Fulton for 70th.
Â
Round three of the tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. CT Tuesday morning and will proceed normally with plans to finish the 18 holes before weather conditions force tournament suspension.
