Bulldogs Shoot Six Under Par Tuesday At Tiger Invitational
March 16, 2021 | Men's Golf
Opelika, Ala. – Play has been suspended until Wednesday at the Tiger Invitational due to weather conditions in the area. Mississippi State's men's golf program passed three of seven ranked opponents to land in a tie for seventh with Georgia.Â
The tournament will wrap up on Wednesday with the completion of the remaining holes in Round 3.Â
State started the round off on better footing, sitting at six-under through 13 completed holes on Tuesday. Ford Clegg continued to lead the Bulldogs as he shot even-par through the first four holes before sinking three birdies on the front nine. The junior finished the day in sixth place at 8-under par for the tournament with three holes left to play.Â
Freshman Hunter Logan played a steady game shooting a 1-under for the day and 3-under through 62 holes to tie for 17th. He will finish the final two holes on Wednesday. Austin Fulton jumped 22 places on the leaderboard and played all but one hole. He carded five birdies in the round to land at 2-under par.Â
"I'm really proud of how we came out and handled the conditions today," head coach Dusty Smith said. "One thing that has really helped is having all five guys in the round. We still have work to do tomorrow and need to come out with energy and great focus to finish like we know we can."
At the time of suspension, senior Garrett Johnson was at 1-over and tied with Fulton for 51st. He carded three birdies for the day but dropped one place from round two with two holes left to complete.Â
Loïc Ettlin shot par through the first eight holes of the round, before firing a birdie on Hole 2, but he bogeyed Holes 8 and 10. He has one hole to play on Wednesday.Â
State's individual player Austin Vukovits is 4-over for the round with two holes remaining.
The Tiger Invitational will resume Wednesday at 10 a.m. CT. The Bulldogs will play their remaining holes to finish the tournament.
