BATON ROUGE, La. – After one round at the LSU Invitational, Mississippi State men's golf sits in 12th place tied with the tournament host.
Â
The Bulldogs teed off on hole 10 and got off to a slow start with four student-athletes carding a 5-over 77. Sophomore Hunter Logan led the Bulldogs through the tournament finishing the round tied for 27th. He shot a 3-over 75 with three birdies on Holes 15, 6 and 9.
Â
"It was a very tough day out there," head coach Dusty Smith said. "Extremely difficult hole locations and some wind made it a tough day. I'm proud of our guys for being resilient and having great body language all day."
Â
Junior Ford Clegg quickly birdied Hole 11 and gained strokes on Holes 1 and 2 entering the front-nine. Senior Garrett Johnson also improved on the front nine as he birdied on Holes 1 and 8.
Â
Sophomore Ben Nelson fired one birdie, and William Wann, playing as an individual, also shot 77 to tie for 51st. True freshman Loïc Ettlin shot a 79 on the day to finish the round tied for 72nd.
Â
"Tomorrow will be a great opportunity for us," Smith said. "We need to continue to trust our process and take the right steps each day."
Â
The Bulldogs will hit the course for Round 2 on Saturday morning at 10:10 a.m. CT. Spectators that choose to attend must wear masks and socially distance.
