February 27, 2021 | Men's Golf
BATON ROUGE, La. – Mississippi State's men's golf team climbed five places on the leaderboard to finish Day 2 of the LSU Invitational in seventh place. The Bulldogs shot an even-par 288 on the day for a two-day total of 594.
Â
Ford Clegg made a comeback in the second round jumping nearly 30 spots to finish the round tied for 22nd. The sophomore shot evenly across the board through the back nine and carded three birdies on the front, to finish 3-under on the day.
Â
Freshman Loïc Ettlin also stood out as he shot a 3-under 69 for the day to tie for 26th place, an astonishing 46 places better than the first round on Friday.
Â
"I was pleased with our effort today," head coach Dusty Smith said. "I felt like we had five guys battling all day. I'm really proud of Ford and Loïc bouncing back from yesterday's round and giving us two really good, under-par rounds today."
Â
Senior Garrett Johnson also improved in the second round, shooting four strokes better than his Friday performance. He finished the day at one-over 73 to tie for 40th. Hunter Logan, the Bulldogs' best performer on Friday, slipped up on the back nine, carding a 7 on his second tee of the day. He bounced back on the front nine with birdies on Holes 2 and 3.
Â
Sophomore Ben Nelson shot a 76, and William Wann, playing as an individual, had a hard time getting into the swing of the round, firing a seven-over 79.
Â
"Today was a total team effort and we will need that effort again tomorrow," Smith said. "We have a great opportunity ahead of us tomorrow. We have to do a great job focusing on our own games and processes."
Â
The final round of the LSU Invitational will take place on Sunday with the Bulldogs set to tee off at 8:30 a.m. CT. Spectators choosing to attend the tournament must wear masks and socially distance while on the course.
