Bulldog Notes
The latest ITA Top 25 national poll, released Feb. 17, featured the Bulldogs tied for 25th.
A victory against Missouri (11-3) would give Mississippi State (8-0) its best season start in program history. MSU enters the contest having dropped only two points in its eight matches thus far this season. The Bulldogs have shutout six of their opponents (Southern Miss, Southeastern Louisiana, Samford, UAB, North Alabama and Tulane). Their other two victories came by 6-1 decisions at Furman (now ranked 24th) and at home versus Memphis.
The Bulldogs have dominated in doubles action this spring, having claimed all eight doubles points. The team owns an impressive 20-2 record in doubles dual match play overall, highlighted by a perfect 8-0 record from the duo of Emma Antonaki and Alexandra Mikhailuk, who have claimed their last 11 straight. MSU's pair of Magda Adaloglou and Tamara Racine is ranked 41st nationally and claimed a ranked victory over No. 54 Mackenzie Clark and Mary Caroline Meredith of Tulane on Sunday in their first time competing together this season.
In singles, State is 46-2 in dual matches in 2021, and six Bulldogs remain unphased. Tamara Racine is 5-1 at the top spot in State's lineup and has claimed her last four decisions. The 69th-ranked Antonaki owns a team-leading 15-match singles win streak, dating back to last season. Adaloglou has won 15 of her last 17 singles affairs, while Mikhailuk has claimed 12 of her last 13 singles outings. The senior transfer Poling is 12-2 overall, and has won seven straight. Rookie Chloé Cirotte – who has earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors in each of the last two weeks - has notched a perfect 7-0 mark thus far in dual match singles competition. Marta Falceto is 10-2 overall, 4-0 in dual match action.
Antonaki and Mikhailuk are both undefeated in all matches they have played in 2021, each 20-0 (10-0 doubles, 10-0 singles).
Know the Foe
Mizzou enters the contest with a 11-3 record, with their three setbacks coming to No. 13 Oklahoma State (twice) and Memphis. The Tigers are 9-1 at home.
State owns an 8-1 advantage over Missouri all-time and has won its last six matches against the Tigers. The Maroon and White claimed the last meeting on Feb. 28, 2020, in Columbia in a 4-1 decision.
Last Time Out
This past Sunday, Mississippi State posted its sixth shutout of the season, downing Tulane 7-0 to remain perfect in dual match play in 2021. In the triumph, State posted two ranked victories.
