State To Host UAB Friday In Valentine’s Day Home Opener

STARKVILLE – After spending the first month of the season on the road, the Mississippi State women's tennis team (4-3) is set to host UAB (3-3) in its home opener Friday, Feb. 14, at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre. The Bulldogs will then travel to Montgomery, Alabama, on Sunday, Feb. 16, for a doubleheader at Alabama State (1-2).
State's Valentine's Day match against the Blazers is set to begin at 3 p.m. CT. Sunday's twin bill at Alabama State is slated for 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. start times.
State holds a 26-3 advantage over UAB all-time and owns a 16-match win streak over the Blazers. The Maroon and White claimed the last meeting on Feb. 10, 2019, in Starkville by a 6-1 decision. MSU has won 37-consecutive non-conference matches at home, dating back to the 2013 campaign.
MSU looks to remain perfect against the Hornets Sunday, owning a 4-0 ledger all-time. The teams last met in a doubleheader in Starkville last season, with MSU sweeping ASU in 7-0 and 4-0 wins.
The Bulldogs have dominated in doubles action this spring, having claimed six of seven doubles points. The squad owns a 14-3 record in doubles dual match play overall, courtesy of a perfect 4-0 ledger from the freshman-senior tandem of Marta Falceto and Sara Lizariturry at the No. 3 position. The duo owns a team-leading five-match win streak dating back to the fall campaign. Magda Adaloglou and Tamara Racine found themselves ranked No. 46 in the latest ITA doubles rankings and own a team-best five wins this spring.
Racine enters the weekend on a two-match win streak in singles, while the rookie Falceto paces the team with five wins while holding down the No. 6 position for the Bulldogs.
Following this weekend's action, State will enjoy a week off before opening its 2020 SEC slate on Friday, Feb. 28, at Missouri. MSU will then return home the following Sunday, Mar. 1, to host No. 15 Vanderbilt.
