STARKVILLE – Looking to continue its success from the season opener last weekend, the Mississippi State cross country team travels to Nashville, Tennessee, Saturday to compete in the Commodore Classic.
The meet, hosted by Vanderbilt University, will be held at Percy Warner Park, and the women's 6K is set to begin at 9:15 a.m. CT.
State is one of 20 teams in the women's race that features five SEC opponents in Auburn, Georgia, Missouri, Ole Miss and Vanderbilt. Ole Miss is ranked 15th in the USTFCCCA Preseason poll, while Ohio State, who will also be joining the Bulldogs in Nashville, came in at No. 26.
"The preseason is every meet before the conference meet," distance coach Patrick McGregor said. "The SEC Championship meet is what people remember and what you're judged on. This is another meet to learn how to be better teammates and better competitors. With that being said, we will compete with a championship mindset on Saturday. "
Five Bulldogs – Charlotte Cayton-Smith, Audrey Honiotes, Sylvia Russell, Kristy Terp and freshman Silvia De La Pena Garibay will make their 2019 debuts.
Results for the meet can be found at www.cfpitiming.com.
