STARKVILLE – Riding a four-match win streak to open the 2019 season, the No. 3 Mississippi State men's tennis team is set for its first road tests of the year, traveling to Lubbock, Texas, to take on Texas Tech and Tulane.
The Bulldogs (4-0) first face the Red Raiders (5-2) at 8 p.m. CT on Friday before playing the 19th-ranked Green Wave (4-1) at 8:30 p.m. Saturday indoors at the Lubbock Country Club. Matches were originally scheduled for 4 p.m. and 2 p.m. at TTU's McLeod Tennis Center, but cold temperatures led to the decision to move the matches indoors. Live scoring will be available to fans for Friday's match against Texas Tech, with the password being "ttu". Fans can follow the team's Twitter account for live updates on both days.
"We're really excited about our first road tests of the year this weekend," head coach Matt Roberts said. "Texas Tech and Tulane are both outstanding, well-coached teams that are consistently in the NCAA Tournament year-in and year-out. This weekend is a great opportunity to test ourselves against some very good players and teams on the road before we head to Chicago for National Indoors."

The Bulldogs are currently ranked third nationally—matching the program's highest ranking ever and the highest since 1999. This week marked the 14th straight week MSU was ranked inside the top 25. In the ITA national singles rankings, two-time All-American Nuno Borges leads four State players at No. 5 in the nation. Niclas Braun (career-best No. 64), Giovanni Oradini (No. 66) and Trevor Foshey (No. 98) round out MSU's current ranked singles players. State boasts a pair of ranked doubles tandems in sixth-ranked Braun and Giovanni Oradini and No. 34 Borges and Strahinja Rakic.

Texas Tech enters Friday's match with a 5-2 mark after upsetting 14th-ranked Texas A&M, 4-3, in Dallas this past Friday. The Red Raiders opened their season winning four straight before dropping a pair of matches to Florida State and Tennessee at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend in Tallahassee, Florida.
The Red Raiders received votes in this week's ITA rankings, with Tommy Mylnikov being the lone ranked singles player at No. 78 in the nation. In doubles, Bjorn Thomson teams up with Parker Wynn to form the nation's 14th-ranked tandem.
Tulane is a familiar foe for the Maroon and White, having met 19 times in recorded history. The Green Wave enter Saturday's contest having won four of their first five matches, including advancing to the 2019 ITA National Team Indoor Championship with 4-2 victories against Tennessee and at Florida State at the same ITA Kick-Off Weekend site as TTU. Most recently, TU dropped a tough 4-3 decision at home to LSU.
The Green Wave boasts three ranked singles players, led by Luis Erlenbusch at 42nd nationally. Ewan Moore (No. 63) and Tyler Schick (No. 76) round out Tulane's ranked singles trio.

After taking on Texas Tech and Tulane, the Bulldogs will head to Chicago for the 2019 ITA National Team Indoor Championship, which will be held Feb. 15-18 at the Midtown Athletic Club. Each team in the 16-team field is guaranteed three matches in the event. It will be State's 12th appearance all-time in the National Indoors.
