Men’s 800m Stands Third Nationally In Latest #EventSquad Rankings

STARKVILLE – Three top-30 runners lead Mississippi State in the men's 800m, a group that held strong at No. 3 nationally in the second edition of the USTFCCCA's #EventSquad Rankings.
The rankings determine the top school in each event based on their four best athletes in that event, with MSU's 800m quartet averaging a time of 1:49.80. Sophomore Marco Arop leads the pack with a mark of 1:47.63 that helped win the event at the Razorback Invitational on Jan. 26. His time currently ranks third in the SEC and seventh in the nation.
Dejon Devroe is tied for 21st in the nation (No. 5 in the SEC), while Daniel Nixon's mark of 1:49.92 set at the Vanderbilt Invitational (1/19), ranks 30th in the country and seventh in the conference. Kenya Small rounds out MSU's top four 800m runners at 1:52.20, also set at Vanderbilt.
State ranks 18th in the men's 200m, with an average time of 21.50 led by Terryon Conwell, who finished second in the event at the Razorback Invitational with a mark of 21.13. Karson Kowalchuk (21.36), Okheme Moore (21.44) and Rasheed Tatham (22.09) also contributed to the Bulldogs' No. 18 ranking.
Kowalchuk leads the No. 24 men's 60m squad with a mark of 6.79 set at the Razorback Invitational. Moore (6.82), Cameron Crump (6.86) and Lawrence Crawford (6.93) round out the Bulldogs' top four 60m sprinters.
Next Up For MSU …
MSU will be back in action Feb. 8-9 in a split meet. Some of State's athletes will return to Nashville for the Music City Challenge, while others will head to Clemson, South Carolina, for the Tiger Paw Invitational.
