MSU 800m Men Finish Second In Final Indoor #EventSquad Rankings

STARKVILLE – After earning 17 points for the Mississippi State men's track and field squad at the 2019 SEC Indoor Championships, the Bulldogs' 800m crew finished the indoor season ranked No. 2 in the nation in the USTFCCCA's #EventSquad Rankings.
The rankings determine the top school in each event based on their four best athletes in that event, with State's 800m men averaging a time of 1:49.21 behind only Texas A&M (1:48.89). SEC silver medalist Marco Arop leads the way for MSU with a staggering mark of 1:45.90 set on Feb. 9 at the Tiger Paw Invitational at Clemson, which shattered both the school and Canadian records for the indoor 800m. The sophomore also ranks second in the NCAA in the event this season.
Dejon Devroe's time of 1:49.15 at the SEC Championships (2/23) ranks 30th in the nation (No. 4 in the SEC), while Daniel Nixon's mark of 1:49.15, also set at SEC Indoors ranks eighth in the conference. Devroe and Nixon placed fourth and fifth, respectively, on Saturday in the 800m final.
Kenya Small rounds out MSU's top four 800m runners at 1:52.20, set at the Vanderbilt Invitational (1/19).
State finished 16th in the men's 200m, with an average time of 21.30 led by Terryon Conwell, who finished second in the event at the Tiger Paw Invitational with a personal-best mark of 20.99 that ranks fifth in MSU indoor history. Karson Kowalchuk (21.21), Okheme Moore (21.44) and Cameron Crump (21.57) also contributed to the Bulldogs' No. 16 ranking.
Kowalchuk leads the No. 24 men's 60m squad with a mark of 6.75 set at the Tiger Paw Invitational. Moore (6.82), Cameron Crump (6.86) and Lawrence Crawford (6.88) round out the Bulldogs' top four 60m sprinters.
