TAMPA, Fla. – Mississippi State's women's tennis team (9-3) fell 5-2 to the homestanding Bulls of South Florida (5-5) on Friday in a marathon match to conclude 2019 non-conference play at the USF Varsity Tennis Complex.Â
Â
MSU took an early advantage in the match, winning the doubles point with victories on courts 2 and 3. Emma Antonaki and Anastasia Rentouli earned State's first doubles triumph over the Bull duo of Amelie Boy and Ana Roman at No. 2 in a 6-3 decision. Janina Braun and Sara Lizariturry then propelled past USF's Alex Mjos and Evelyne Tiron at the No. 3 spot 6-4 for the clincher to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead heading into singles.
Â
Singles was not as kind for State, as the Bulldogs dropped the first two contests to hand the Bulls a 2-1 lead in the contest. After Bulldogs Magda Adalogolou and Braun were handed straight-set defeats on courts 1 and 6, respectively, MSU's 104th-ranked rookie Antonaki then tied the match at 2-2 with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over USF's Evelyne Tiron on court 2.
Â
USF regained the lead at 3-2 with a tight 7-5, 6-3 decision from Laura Pellicer over State's Lizariturry at the No. 5 position. The Bulls' Boy then clinched the match against State's Racine, rallying back for a 4-6, 6-2, 6-0 triumph on court 4.
Â
After the clinch, the Bulls grabbed the final point of the day, which featured a very heated contest between MSU's Rentouli and USF's Vanja Klaric, which Klaric ultimately claimed 7-5, 6-7(1), 1-0(6).

Â
Next Up For MSU…
