Zgunda Named to SEC Community Service Team

STARKVILLE – On Wednesday (Dec. 4), the Southeastern Conference office announced that Mississippi State volleyball junior Gabby Zgunda was named to the SEC Community Service Team.
"Gabby is the most selfless person I have ever met so this award is fitting," MSU volleyball head coach Julie Darty said. "She is a servant leader, and she loves to give herself and her time to others. I am proud of Gabby for this recognition as she is most definitely deserving."
A large part of Zgunda's off-the-court service has come through Fellowship of Christian Athletes, where she has served on the group's leadership team. Within FCA, Zgunda assisted with the Operation Christmas Child efforts, the FCA Banquet as well as other events in the organization.
Additionally, Zgunda participated in the Dance Marathon for the Children's Miracle Network and volunteered on campus for the Campaign Against Domestic Violence. She also sacrifices her time at local elementary schools and thrift stores alongside her MSU volleyball teammates.
To add to the list, Zgunda currently serves as a student photographer with Mississippi State athletics.
After three seasons with Mississippi State volleyball, Zgunda is concluding her career in Maroon and White as she is set to graduate with a bachelor's degree in communication in May 2020. Zgunda plans to pursue a master's in business administration degree afterwards.
In 2017, Zgunda collected 275 digs to set the eighth highest mark all-time among MSU freshmen. As a sophomore, she played every set in the first year of the Julie Darty era and tallied 291 digs, the second-highest total on the squad. Darty named Zgunda one of three captains ahead of the 2019 season.
Zgunda was a SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll member as a freshman and then earned SEC Academic Honor Roll the next season.
