Mississippi State Volleyball to Host Volunteers in Season Finale
November 29, 2019 | Volleyball
By Austin Coats, Graduate Assistant/Communications
STARKVILLE – Julie Darty and Mississippi State volleyball have one last stand in 2019.
On Saturday (Nov. 30), the Bulldogs (13-16, 2-15) will host Tennessee (14-13, 8-9 SEC) at the Newell-Grissom Building in State's final match of the 2019 season.
"We are so excited to play our last match of 2019 at home," said Darty, head coach of MSU volleyball. "We are in a good place, emotionally and mentally, and I am really excited to take the court one last time this year. This team has worked super hard all year and they are laying the groundwork that we have asked of them.
"They know that hard work pays off, and that they might not feel it or see it all right now. Every single day they continue to work hard in practice, and that's really promising and exciting. We have a good game plan, and if we can execute it with high energy and effort, I know we will be proud of our product."
The match can be streamed live via SEC Network+ and the Watch ESPN app, with first serve set for 1 p.m. CT. It will be a rematch of two teams that met on Oct. 13 in Knoxville, Tenn., as the Volunteers took a straight set win at home.
Saturday's season finale will also see the end of four Bulldog careers. Seniors Amarrah Cooks and Alleah Stamatis and juniors Kanani Price and Gabby Zgunda will be at The Griss for the final time as student-athletes.
Stamatis needs just six assists Saturday to reach the 1,000-assists mark for the 2019 season alone. In doing so, she would become just the seventh Bulldog all-time to reach that mark in one season, and the first since 2011.
Price comes into the finale averaging 5.82 digs per set over her last three matches. Her 4.40 average in SEC play ranks fourth in the league, and her 3.71 mark is No. 9 in the conference. She leads the Bulldogs with 412 digs on the season.
Cooks has been efficient in her senior season with a .317 hitting percentage that sits tied for ninth in the SEC. She will look to finish high on the MSU single season and career leaderboards for hitting percentage.
