TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Junior Stephen Jones is set to travel to Terre Haute, Indiana to represent Mississippi State at the NCAA Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Nov. 23.
The Troy, Ohio, native covered the 10K course in 30:33.5 for an 11th-place finish at the NCAA South Region Championships on Nov. 15 to earn a bid as the third highest individual without an advancing team.
Jones joins Robert Scribner (2005-08) as the only two MSU men in school history to advance to the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
The meet, hosted by Indiana State, will be held at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course. The men's 10K race is set to begin at 11:15 a.m. CT.
In addition to 31 teams qualifying for the NCAA Championships, there are 38 individuals among the field of 255 athletes in the men's 10K race. The top 40 finishers will earn All-American honors.
Coverage of the championships will begin at 10 a.m. on FloTrack. Fans can stream the race with a FloTrack subscription. Live results for the meet can be found at PTTiming.com.
Jones took home the UAB Blazer Classic title earlier this season on Oct. 18 as he set a new personal best with a time of 23:51.98. In the 2019 outdoor season, he advanced to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 3000m steeplechase and was the SEC Runner-Up in the event.
He broke the oldest, untied school record when he ran a personal-best 8:42.68 in the 3000m steeplechase at the NCAA East Prelims.
