
Russell leads Bulldog Efforts At Louisville Classic

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Mississippi State cross country team set 12 personal bests Saturday at the Louisville Classic held at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park.
All six of MSU's runners in the men's 8K set collegiate-best marks en route to a 26th-place finish. In the women's 5K, State clinched a 12th-place finish as six of its eight runners set personal bests.
The women were led by Sylvia Russell, who shattered her previous 5K best by 48 seconds with a time of 17:32.7. Kristy Terp was the second Bulldog to cross the finish line with a personal-best time of 18:16.5, placing 80thoverall.
In addition to Russell and Terp's personal bests, Silvia De La Pena Garibay, Breja Hooks, Ava Weems and Mary Beth Woodward all shaved time off their previous marks. Hooks ran the 5K 1:13 faster than she did a month ago at the UNA Invitational.
In the men's race, Giacomo DeLuca paced the Bulldogs in his cross country debut with a 32nd-place finish in 24:25.2. Luke Zacharias (80th), Lake Spradling (98th), Eryk Yunk (199th) and Clayton Fulgham (261st) rounded out the top five for MSU.
The Bulldogs return to action Friday, Oct. 18, at the UAB Blazer Invite in Montevallo, Alabama.
