Bulldogs Return To Action At UAB Blazer Classic

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Mississippi State cross country team travels to Montevallo, Alabama, to compete in the UAB Blazer Classic on Friday.
The meet, hosted by UAB, will be held at the Montevallo Cross Country Course with the women's 6K race set to begin at 9 a.m. CT followed by the men's 8K at 9:45 a.m.
The Mississippi State women will be joined by 29 other programs, including SEC foe Alabama along with 11th-ranked Florida State and Memphis.
Sylvia Russell has led the way for the Bulldogs this season, posting two team-best finishes in the Commodore Classic 6K and Louisville Classic 5K. Freshman Anna Balzli will make her collegiate debut.
Several men will hit the course for the first time in 2019, including senior Stephen Jones, junior Blake Beavers, redshirt freshmen Brock Isom, Matthew Ray and Slater Richardson and true freshman Jacob Warner.
In his first collegiate cross country meet, Giacomo DeLuca was the first Bulldog to cross the line, placing 32nd in the Louisville Classic 8K on Oct. 5.

The UAB Blazer Classic serves as the final meet for the Bulldogs before postseason competition begins with the SEC Championships coming up on Nov. 1.
