#STATEtoTheShow Update - July 31
July 31, 2018 | Baseball
STARKVILLE, Miss. – Dakota Hudson's debut may have been quick, but he will not soon forget it.
The most recent #STATEtoTheShow product struck out the first two batters he faced, Kyle Schwarber and Ian Happ, and then induced a groundout from the Cubs' Victor Caratini for a perfect seventh inning performance on Saturday afternoon.
On Monday, Hudson earned his first MLB win after coming on in the 10th inning and benefitting from Marcell Ozuna's walk-off home run.
St. Louis announced Hudson's addition to the 40-man roster on Friday, making him the 59th former Diamond Dawg to make his Major League Baseball debut, and the 10th player in the last five seasons. You can re-live all the moments surrounding Hudson's debut here.
With the addition of Hudson and a few big league recalls in the past week, there are currently six former Bulldogs playing in MLB and seven on 40–man rosters.
Who will be the next #STATEtoTheShow product to make his debut? Eight Diamond Dawgs are awaiting their chance as they play between Double-A and Triple-A.
MLB Pipeline released its midseason prospect rankings on Thursday, and five Bulldogs were named in six different lists. Both Brent Rooker and Nate Lowe were recognized as Top 10 first base prospects and Top 15 talent within their respective organizations. You can see the new rankings below.
A year removed from collegiate baseball, Rooker is making a strong case for himself with the Chattanooga Lookouts (Minnesota Twins Double-A affiliate). On Monday, the Southern League named him the Player of the Week, while MLB Pipeline listed him on its Team of the Week. In seven games from July 23-29, Rooker batted .500 with a 1.529 OPS, 13 hits, two doubles, three home runs and seven RBIs. Rooker's season batting average now sits at .278 and he leads the Southern League with 67 RBIs.
Batting .327 in Double-A, you can read about Nate Lowe's hard work paying off as he continues to swing the bat well with the Montgomery Biscuits (Tampa Bay Rays).
Meanwhile, Zac Houston earned his fifth Triple-A save of the season and extended his scoreless streak to seven games (8.0 innings pitched). Houston also has 16 strikeouts in that span for the Toledo Mud Hens (Detroit Tigers).
Reid Humphreys is the newest of six Bulldogs in Double-A, as he earned a promotion to the Hartford Yard Goats (Colorado Rockies) on Friday. In his first and only appearance since, he pitched an inning of scoreless relief.
