Rhianwedd Price-Weimer now holds the top 1500m time in the NCAA this season.
Distance Runners Pace Bulldogs on Day Two of Pepsi Florida Relays
March 30, 2018 | Track & Field
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Rhianwedd Price-Weimer ran the fastest 1500m time in the NCAA this year as Mississippi State's distance runners shone on the second day of the Pepsi Florida Relays.
Price-Weimer was the top collegiate finisher in 4:10.31. That time ranks 14th in the world this season. For the men, all three Bulldogs set new personal bests. Aaron Phelps trimmed his time by almost nine seconds, running a 3:49.03, while Lake Spradling cut over seven seconds to finish in 3:56.18.
"It's good to see the improvements this weekend," head coach Steve Dudley said. "Rhian is hitting nearly every mark she did on her way to the NCAA title in 2015, and for the men to cut that much time is huge."
MSU's 800m runners who qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships both ran their first outdoor race at that distance this season. Dejon Devroe placed third with a personal-best time of 1:47.97. Marco Arop turned in a time of 1:51.80. Alon Lewis took 11th in the women's 800m with a personal-best of 2:07.80.
In the field events, Brianna Smith placed fifth in the women's invitational hammer throw. Alicia Viveros broke her personal best in the discus by nearly four meters, with a throw of 43.90m (144-0).
The Bulldog women's 4x400m relay advanced to tomorrow's finals with the fastest time in prelims at 3:39.14.
MSU will close the Florida Relays tomorrow with competition beginning at 11 a.m. CT. Select portions of the meet will be broadcast on SEC Network+ throughout the day.
