STARKVILLE, Miss. – Coming off a historical season that saw Mississippi State finish 15th nationally, the Bulldogs kick off the new season Saturday at the Golden Eagle Invitation in Cookeville, Tenn.
The meet will be held at the Ironwood Golf Course and hosted by Tennessee Tech. The men will begin action at 9 a.m. with the 6K, followed by the women's 5K.
The MSU women enter the event ranked No. 23 nationally and No. 2 in the South Region.
"Obviously, we are proud of what we achieved last year, but this is a new season," Mississippi State coach Houston Franks said. "He have high expectations again, and every one is excited to get the season started. This is a new meet for us, and we are looking forward to the challenge of a new course."
The Bulldogs are sending nine runners to compete in this six-team event. In addition to SEC foe Auburn, the field also includes Southern Illinois, Tennessee State, Tennessee Tech and Western Kentucky.
"This will be a good test for us early," Franks said.
Although Shannon Fair will not be competing this weekend, the Bulldogs will have experience in the lineup.
Veterans include Carley Terp, Alex Wallace, Emma Tucker, Stephanie Peterson and Charlotte Cayton-Smith and Alyssa Staubach.
Freshmen making their debut are Katherine Badham, Kara Funke and Audrey Honiotes.
