No. 18 MSU Hosts LSU On Sunday For Senior Day

STARKVILLE, Miss. – After a thrilling 4-3 upset over No. 7 Texas A&M on Friday, the No. 18 Mississippi State men's tennis team (16-5, 7-2 SEC) sets its sights to Senior Day as the Bulldogs host LSU (9-14, 3-7 SEC) on Sunday to cap the home slate.
First serve between the Bulldogs and Tigers is set for 1 p.m. CT at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre. The Senior Day recognition for Mate Cutura and Vaughn Hunter will begin at approximately 12:50 p.m. CT on Sunday. Live stats and video will be provided at www.hailstate.com/livemt.
"We're excited for another opportunity to get better on Sunday against LSU," head coach Matt Roberts said. "We want to honor our seniors, Mate and Vaughn, with a big performance tomorrow. Those guys have played a major role in the team we are today and have meant so much to this program."
The men's tennis squad will be one of the last events of Super Bulldog Weekend, with softball beginning at 12 p.m. CT and baseball starting at 1 p.m. CT. More information on the weekend's festivities can be found here.
Last time out the Bulldogs turned in a impressive effort against the ranked Aggies as No. 18 MSU downed No. 7 Texas A&M, 4-3. State captured the doubles point over TAMU, before taking three singles matches to clinch the match.
The senior duo of Mate Cutura and Vaughn Hunter clinched the doubles point as the pair earned its third-straight win in doubles. This season the Bulldog tandem has earned a team-best 5-2 record in SEC play.
In singles action, MSU received wins from No. 4 Nuno Borges, Trevor Foshey and No. 122 Strahinja Rakic on Friday. The biggest of those came from Borges, who defeated his third top-10 player of the season in singles action to improve his overall record to 26-5 on the year. Rakic also earned a ranked win over No. 123 AJ Catanzarti, while fellow sophomore Foshey captured his ninth singles win of the year.
Who To Watch For MSU
The aforementioned Borges has been on fire for MSU this spring after building a 14-2 record in dual-match play. The sophomore has downed 16 ranked opponents this season in singles play to lead the Maroon and White.
Previewing The Tigers
LSU is 9-14 this season, with the Tigers winning their last four matches. LSU has defeated two SEC foes during that span, downing Ole Miss last Sunday and Auburn on Friday.
Who To Watch For LSU
The Tigers have two ranked players in singles and two ranked doubles pairs. Jordan Daigle is ranked 44th in singles, while Justin Butsch is 76th for LSU. Daigle and Butsch make up the highest ranked doubles tandem at No. 39, with Julian Saborio and Gabor Csonka cracked the rankings this week at No. 90 overall.

The Bulldogs will travel to Florida and South Carolina for their final weekend of the regular season on Friday and Sunday. MSU will be idle until the start of the SEC Championship on April 26-30.
