The Bulldogs are looking to keep their recent momentum going after defeating back-to-back top 25 opponents in No. 25 Texas A&M (4-1) and No. 19 LSU (6-1) to close out the regular season home slate this past weekend. After those wins, State climbed eight spots in this week's ITA national rankings, the highest jump of anyone in the top 25.
State's 18th-ranked All-American Jasmine Lee leaped 14 spots in the ITA singles rankings after going a combined 3-1 over the weekend, aiding MSU in its two ranked victories. Lee recorded two ranked singles victories to extend her winning streak to six matches and claim the SEC Athlete of the Week honor.
True freshman Sara Lizariturry was named SEC Freshman of the Week after going 4-0 on the weekend. Lizariturry was instrumental in clinching both doubles points over the weekend and also notched two key singles triumphs for the Bulldogs. State's Jennifer Brown clinched Friday's 4-1 victory over the Aggies in a tough match while Anastasia Rentouli clinched Sunday's 6-1 victory, also in a hard-fought contest versus the Tigers.
Madison Harrison, Lisa Marie Rioux and Khrystyna Vozniak all picked up a win on Sunday in the 6-1 victory against LSU, Harrison's coming in a singles upset.
State's fifth-ranked doubles pair of Lee and Rioux look to build on their 13-4 dual match and 6-3 SEC records at the No. 1 position.
South Carolina enters Friday's match after splitting its affairs this past weekend, falling to No. 12 Auburn 4-3 and then defeating No. 34 Alabama by the same score.
In singles, USC is led by 41st-ranked Ingrid Gamarra Martins at the No. 1 position and No. 54 Mia Horvit. On the doubles side, the Gamecock's boast the nation's 37th-ranked duo of Hadley Burg and Paige Cline. Berg also pairs up with Caroline Dailey to form the nation's 57th-ranked duo.
