STARKVILLE, Miss. – A standout on the Indiana volleyball scene will now call Starkville home, as Mississippi State head coach David McFatrich announced the signing of Kanani Price on Thursday.
"Mississippi State has a wide variety of majors to chose from and the education level is outstanding to me," Price said. "Athletics wise, MSU has an fantastic volleyball program. The team and the coaches know exactly what it takes to be great. Also, the campus is so pretty and it is just the right size. It's a perfect fit.
"I picked MSU because I believe it will benefit my life in many ways not only through academics, but also athletics. State has so much to offer and when I am there I feel as if I am home."
A star defensive specialist for head coach Robert Holloway at Madison-Grant High School, Price is an all-state and all-conference star that brings experience and depth to the MSU defense.
"I'm really looking forward to coaching Kanani," McFatrich said. "She is driven and extremely competitive, two important characteristics we look for in players. She is a very good defender, communicates with her teammates very well, and has improved her passing a ton this club season. Kanani has been coached by some of the best and has developed a strong foundation, which will help her immensely as she transitions to college volleyball."
Price rounded out her career with back-to-back All-Conference honors, while landing ICGSA 2A First Team All-State and Indiana All-Star North Team laurels in her senior season. That year Price guided her squad to a 30-4 finish, winning the Madison and Grant County Championship. Individually, Price finished with 475 digs, which finished as the second-most in a single season in MGHS history. She also holds the school record for most digs in a three-set contest with 36.
The Argylls also earned Sectional Championship honors the year prior, as Price's defensive prowess paced Madison-Grant to a 26-9 finish. MGHS also had a stronghold on the Argyll Invite in her time there, as they captured the tourney's title from 2013-16.
On the club scene, Price was also a star, playing for head coach Lori Elson. Price helped guide her squad to first-place finishes in four different local tournaments and a second-place showing in the silver bracket at nationals.
Price didn't just shine on the volleyball court throughout her high school career. She was also a standout for the MGHS tennis program, earning numerous honors while leading her squad to a conference championship. Price earned All-Conference honors in consecutive seasons, while also reeling in Honorable Mention All-State and All-District laurels in her time on the court. She also earned a doubles title at the Argyll Invite.
Price, who will major in animal science at MSU, is the daughter of Jeff and Stacie Price and was born on Jan. 1, 1999 in Fort Wayne, Ind. She has three siblings, Jaelah, Bridger and Soren. When not dominating on the volleyball court, Price enjoys playing tennis, participating in 4-H and dairy farming.
