MSU Double Dips With Trips To California and Alabama
April 12, 2017 | Track & Field
STARKVILLE, Miss. – Two squads of Bulldogs will venture to opposite sides of the country this weekend as the midway point of the outdoor season approaches.
Half of the team will be in Mobile, Ala. to take on the South Alabama Invitational, while the other half of the squad will hop on a plane and head for California and the Mt. SAC Relays. On Monday, the USTFCCCA released its weekly outdoor top 25 with the MSU women catapulting to No. 21.
The group heading to California is highlighted by several All-Americans in Tiffany Flynn, Logan Boss and Rhianwedd Price.
Flynn will compete in three events over the course of the three-day event, running in the 100m hurdles on Friday, followed by tackling the long jump and triple jump competitions on Saturday.
Boss, the current NCAA leader in high jump at 1.89m, set the school record last weekend when she successfully cleared that height at the Crimson Tide Invitational. The junior has won both high jump competitions she has competed in this season, and will attempt to make it three in a row when she begins at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
In Alabama, MSU will have several athletes competing in the men's decathlon and the women's decathlon throughout the week, as well as having a large number compete in both running and field events all day Saturday.
"We are excited about this week," MSU coach Steve Dudley said. "This is a great opportunity for all of our athletes to improve, which is what we want them to be doing every single weekend. We look forward to that chance, and are expecting big things this weekend."
