March 16, 2017 | Women's Tennis
STARKVILLE, Miss. – After two tough setbacks on the road to top 20 teams, the 41st-ranked Mississippi State women's tennis team (8-4, 1-3 SEC) returns home Friday to host the 42nd-ranked Missouri Tigers (10-4, 1-2 SEC). The match is slated for a 3 p.m. CT start time at MSU's A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre.

The Bulldogs are looking to bounce back after falling in back-to-back 6-1 decisions to fifth-ranked Vanderbilt Friday and No. 20 Kentucky Sunday. On Friday, State's Lisa Marie Rioux provided the lone point, while 57th-ranked Jasmine Lee put the Bulldogs on the board Sunday.
State's senior All-American Lee notched her 35th career victory against a ranked opponent Sunday upending Kentucky's 16th-ranked Aldila Sutjadi in straight sets. Lee currently leads the team with 14 singles victories on the season, including a 10-2 mark in dual matches.
The true freshman Rioux recorded her first career SEC win on Friday and is now one of four MSU players to have at least one SEC singles win on the season while carrying an 8-3 dual match mark. Sara Lizariturry (13-6 overall) and Anastasia Rentouli (11-7) have also notched one each, Lizariturry clinching State's exciting 4-3 victory over Alabama two weeks ago. Jennifer Brown, Madison Harrison and Khrystyna Vozniak look to record their first league triumphs of the season.
In doubles, State is led by Lee and Rioux as the pair is 16-4 overall and currently ranked 13thin the country.
Missouri enters Friday's match after falling in a close 4-3 decision to No. 27 LSU on Sunday. All three of MU's SEC matches have been determined by 4-3 scores this season as the Tigers fell 4-3 at Arkansas to open league play before upsetting Texas A&M by the same score in a thriller last Friday. Both of those opponents were ranked 17th nationally when Missouri faced them.
In singles, the Tigers are led by Bea Machado Santos and Brianna Lashway at the No. 1 and 2 positions. In doubles, Lashway pairs with Clare Raley to represent the Tigers on court 1.
