Pichaikool Claims T15 Finish at Weather-Plagued Southwestern Invitational
February 28, 2017 | Men's Golf
WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Cailf. – Following day one being cut short due to darkness, day two at Southwestern Invitational featured a two-hour frost delay. The Mississippi State men's golf team finished 11th after shooting a 54-hole total of 890.
Continuing to lead the way for the Bulldogs, freshman Peng Pichaikool nabbed his second Top-15 finish in as many career tournaments carding a 1-over-par 217 to finish tied for 15th.
"We had a disappointing week," MSU coach Clay Homan said. "I really thought we were playing well enough coming in to put together a good tournament, but we just didn't make enough birdies."
Joining Pichaikool in the Top 25, Jackson Dick turned in a scorecard of 221 to tie for 24th.
Taylor Grant tied for 48th following a 54-hole total of 226.
Taylor Bibbs, a San Diego, Calif., native, shot a 232 tying the junior for 67th positon.
Rounding out the Maroon & White scorecard, Garrett Johnson finished tied for 71st after shooting a three-round total of 235.
"We really need to get much better when we have those scorable opportunities with our wedges," Homan said. "It's hard to make birdies when your wedge game isn't sharp"
Host Pepperdine, lead by Individual leader Sahith Theegala, won the team title.
MSU returns to SEC country on Sunday at the Tiger Invitational in Opelika, Ala.
