WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Cailf. – Play at day one of the Southwestern Invitational was cut due to darkness with the Mississippi State men's golf team shooting an opening-round 297 to sit in ninth place.
The second round will resume at 9:30 a.m. CST Tuesday, with the start of the third and final round to begin immediately after.
Freshman Peng Pichaikool fired a 1-under-par 71 to tie for 10thplace before the sun set on Southern California.
"It was a long day, and unfortunately we didn't finish our second round," MSU coach Clay Homan said. "The one bright spot on the day was that Peng continues to play at a pretty high level."
Taylor Grant is tied for 31st after carding a 74 in the opening round.
Making a homecoming of sorts, San Diego native Taylor Bibbs shot a 75 to tie for 40th positon heading into Tuesday.
Jackson Dick and Garrett Johnson shot identical rounds of 77 to sit in a tie for 53rd.
"We need to come out tomorrow and play with more consistency and post some better scores," Homan said. "The greens are perfect and there are birdies to be had."
Host Pepperdine, lead by individual leader Sahith Theegala, leads the 14-team field.
