DMR Captures SEC Crown on Final Day in Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Sparked by the return of Olympian Marta Freitas, the DMR squad proved once again to be the star of the 2017 indoor season.

The team of Rhianwedd Price, Alon Lewis, Ffion Price and Marta Freitas ran away with the event, running a time of 11:09.18. Freitas came from behind in the mile leg of the DMR, but had a commanding lead by the time she began the final lap.

As a team, the ladies scored 30.5 points for a 9^th place finish overall. Logan Boss finished 4^th in the high jump with a leap 1.74m. Tiffany Flynn broke her own school record in the triple jump, leaping 13.53m for a fourth place finish.

Brianna Smith also broke her own school record in the weight throw, tossing 20.61m for a seventh place finish.

In the mile, Rhianwedd Price finished third earning the team six points, while Ffion Price finished sixth to earn an additional three points.

On the men's side, the 4x400m relay team of Philip Smith, Stephan James, Juston Waters and Rasheed Tatham finished sixth after running a time of 3:06.58.

"I am so proud of the ladies on the DMR today," MSU coach Steve Dudley said. "That team has been running so well since the beginning of the year, and to get Marta back was such a confidence boost for them. I am so happy for all four of them to be able to call themselves SEC Champions."

The Bulldogs will return to action in two weeks in College Station, Texas, and the Indoor Nationals. Those Bulldogs with high enough marks nationally will represent MSU at the NCAA Championship event.
