Pichaikool Shines in Career Debut at Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate

MOBILE, Ala. – Peng Pichaikool started his collegiate career with a bang on Monday, firing an opening round 4-under-par 68 to lead the Mississippi State men's golf team to a two-round total of 571 and sole possession of third place heading to Tuesday's final round at the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate.
Pichaikool followed his 68 with a 72 to finish his day with a 140. The Thailand native is tied for third two shots behind the leader, Georgia State's Alexander Herrmann.
"I thought we got off to a good start with Peng posting a 68 in his first collegiate tournament of his career," MSU coach Clay Homan said.
Senior Jackson Dick fired a 1-under-par 143 on the day to join Pichaikool as the only Bulldogs under par. Dick heads into Tuesday tied for 17th.
Freshman Garrett Johnson also landed in the top 20, shooting a 144 to tie for 20th.
Taylor Grant shot a 146 for the two rounds to tie for 35th place.
Rounding out the Bulldog scorecard, Ross Bell sits in a tie for 38thafter shooting an opening day 147.
"We just starting losing some shots in the middle of our second round that we just never got back," Homan said. "Hopefully we can get the round in tomorrow and have a chance to make a run at the leaders."
MSU trails leader and host South Alabama by six shots.
The Maroon and White had four participants in the USA Individual Tournament, which was held simultaneously with the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate.
Taylor Bibbs is the clubhouse leader with 18 holes remaining. Bibbs shot 4-under-par 138 behind a career-low 65 in the second round.
Jacob Ross finished the day tied for third after shooting a 143 for the opening two rounds.
In just his second tournament of the season, Austin Rose carded a 149 to end the day tied for 16th.
Senior Ben Follett-Smith rounded out the Bulldog foursome by placing 21st behind an opening-day total of 153.
The Bulldogs tee it up for the final round on Tuesday at 8:00am.
