STARKVILLE, Miss. – Looking to build off one of the most successful fall campaigns in recent memory, the Mississippi State men's golf team travels south for the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate.
The two-day, 54-hole event begins Monday at the par-72 Magnolia Grove Crossings Golf Course in Mobile, Alabama. MSU is set to tee off at 8 a.m. CT.
"We are all looking forward to getting back into competition and picking up where we left off in October," MSU coach Clay Homan said. "We did some good things in the fall, and I think the strength of this team is that we have several guys that we can plug into our lineup and you don't see a drop off in production."
The 15-team field includes Abilene Christian, Alcorn State, Chattanooga, Cincinnati, Georgia State, Illinois State, Kansas State, Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisville, Southern Miss, Texas State, West Virginia, Western Kentucky and host South Alabama.
MSU will take nine Bulldogs to Mobile. Taylor Grant, Garrett Johnson, Jackson Dick, Ross Bell and Peng Pichaikool will be featured on the Maroon and White scorecard. Austin Rose, Ben Follett-Smith, Jacob Ross and Taylor Bibbs will all compete in the USA Individual Tournament.
"The key for us is to have a true number one player emerge and give us those rounds in the 60's that all good teams have," Homan said. "We will have the opportunity to play nine players in our first tournament, so that will give several guys a chance to showcase what they can do when it really matters.
