Price Earns A Dig Against No. 4 Florida on Oct. 29.
MSU Falls At Home To No. 4 Florida Sunday
October 29, 2017 | Volleyball
STARKVILLE, Miss. - Even with abundant endurance and great energy against one of the nation's top teams, Mississippi State fell to No. 4 Florida on Sunday at Newell-Grissom.
Â
Mississippi State (9-17, 0-11 SEC) fell to No. 4 Florida (18-1, 10-1 SEC) 18-25, 10-25, 15-25.
Â
"I thought our outside hitters did a really good job," third-year coach David McFatrich said. "When we controlled the serve and passed well, we got really good looks. The difference was that (Florida) controlled the ball better. We were right there with them in all three games for a while. We just have to sustain it for a whole game. We're getting better, and we're not young anymore."
Â
Being resilient was the overarching theme for the Bulldogs in the first set. A lot of back-and-forth scoring was shown in the front side of the set as each side was no more than 3 points ahead. Khristian Carr had 4 kills, a .375 hitting percentage and 4.0 points in the set. Attack errors were the deciding factor in hard-fought set as Florida eventually pulled away and won, 25-18.
Â
The second set featured the same amount of competitiveness as in the first. Jelena Vujcin had 5 kills, a .500 hitting percentage and 5.0 points. The Gators took advantage of the errors and kills by MSU to secure its 25-10 victory.
Â
The third set was much like the second, as the Bulldogs struggled to stop the Gator's attack game. Carr had 4 kills, a .500 hitting percentage and 4.0 points. Florida went on to claim the win, 25-15.
Â
On Friday, Mississippi State travels to Athens to face Georgia. First serve is set for 6 p.m. CT on the SEC Network +.
