Bulldogs Fall To Alabama At Home On Friday
October 27, 2017 | Volleyball
STARKVILLE, Miss. - Despite a valiant effort and a battle to the end, Mississippi State fell to Alabama at home on Friday evening.
Â
The Crimson Tide (16-8, 4-6 SEC) defeated the Bulldogs (9-16, 0-10 SEC) 21-25, 18-25, 21-25.
Â
"I think that we're actually doing some things better, in stretches, but not long enough stretches," third-year coach David McFatrich said. "We want to be able to have four or five things that we do really well. We can do those things, just not for long enough. We've got to control the ball better. We had four service errors in the last game and we can't do that."
Â
Mississippi State had a lot of communication, energy and focus during the first set. Jelena Vujcin and Khristian Carr each had 3 kills. As a team, 5.0 blocks were collected. Kills and errors were capitalizing factors for both teams. However, the Bulldogs struggled to stop the attack from the Crimson Tide in a 25-21 loss.
Â
In the second set, the same competitiveness was present for the Bulldogs. A kills battle ensued as 27 were accumulated. Vujcin had 4 kills and a .667 hitting percentage, and Carr had 6 kills. Similarly to the first set, kills and errors were the same factors, as the Crimson Tide went on to win, 25-18.
Â
The third set was similar to the first and the second as kills and errors were the outcome. However, the game was a lot closer as it went back and forth for most of the game. Sara Maddox had 4 kills and Carr had 5 kills. Despite Mississippi State's effort, Alabama won, 25-21, to end the night.
Â
On Sunday, Mississippi State welcomes No. 4 Florida to Newell-Grissom. First serve is set for Noon CT on the SEC Network +.
