October 27, 2017 | Cross Country
ATHENS, Ga. -Â For the Fourth time in as many of years, the Mississippi State women's cross country team grabbed a Top 5 finish at the SEC Championships, placing fifth with a total of 167 points.
        Â
Once again, Shannon Fair paced MSU with a ninth-place finish. Her time of 20:42.0 gave the junior her fourth Top 10 finish this season. The Augusta, Ga. native was named Second Team All-SEC for her performance.
                                                                                    Â
"We set our sights on Top five finish and for the fourth-straight year we did that," MSU coach Houston Franks said. "Shannon was once again solid for us (today), she stuck to her game plan and ran a beautiful race."Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
Â
Joining Fair in the Top 15 was freshman Lisa Oed, who ran a time of 20.45.5 to finish just outside the Top 10 in 11th. Later in the day, Oed was named to the All-Freshman SEC team.    Â
Â
A pair of Bulldogs finished back-to-back giving MSU four in the 50. Sophomore Kristy Terp ran a time of 21:45.5 to place 42nd and was immediately followed by Stephanie Peterson, who finished 43rd with a 21:47.2.
Â
Emma Tucker ran a 22:22.7 to finish in 71st. Katherine Badham finished 96th with a 23:01.8 pushing the total number of Bulldogs in the Top 100 to six. Alex Wallace finished 113th with a time of 23:37.8, followed by Carly Terp (23:58.3) in 117th.   Â
Â
"I am really proud of Lisa, I thought she ran with a lot of grit and determination. As a team, I thought we did the same," Franks said. "We now have two weeks to prepare for regionals and once you get there anything can happen."Â Â
Â
Arkansas swept the Championships with wins on the men's and women's sides.
