MSU Women Finish Seventh At NCAA Regionals
November 10, 2017 | Cross Country
Tuscaloosa, Ala. — On a brisk morning, the Mississippi State women's cross country team fought it's way to a seventh-place finish with 236 total points in the NCAA South Regional, while the Bulldog men finished 17th with 432 points.
"Obviously, we would like one more race, but I'm still proud of our year considering all the youth we had," MSU coach Houston Franks said. "I thought our approach today was great, and no one left anything on the course. I do like what the future holds, and I know our newcomers learned a lot and have something to build off."
The women were led by All-Region selections Shannon Fair and Lisa Oed. Fair, a junior, ran 20:21.6 to finish 11th. Oed, a freshman, finished with a 20:40.6 to place 23rd.
Joining Fair and Oed in the Top 50 was Stephanie Peterson at 44th with a time of 21:11.7. Kristy Terp roundend out the Bulldog quartet in the Top 100 with her 62nd-place finish and time of 21:23.9.
Emma Tucker ran a 22:04.2 to finish 109th. Katherine Badham placed 113th with a time of 22:09.3.
Audrey Honiotes ran a 22:21.9 to finish in 124th positon.
"We competed against some of the best teams in the country and to place in the Top 10 is an accomplishment," Franks said. "We've set the bar high, and I love the competitiveness we showed this year and the disappointment we have because we didn't advance."
Stephan Jones placed the Bulldogs on the men's side with a 43rd-place finish and a time off 32:11.2. JT Mackay made it two MSU runners in the Top 100 with his 81st place finish. Mackay ran time of 33:01.1.
John Dalton Rohr (33:31.2) led the next wave of Bulldogs finishing 102nd, followed by Aaron Phelps (33:39.9) in 109th and Ben Craw (34:18.2) in 128th.
Zach Weaver finished 136th with a time of 34:39.5, followed by Luke Zacharias (35:20.7) in 149th.
Ole Miss took the Regional title on the women's side, Middle Tennessee State took home men's title.
