Ramey Leads Bulldogs' Second-Round Charge
October 04, 2011 | Men's Golf
MSU posted a 1-over-par 281 in the second round, which was the second-best clip of the second round. With a two-round 585, the Maroon and White are in ninth-place amidst one of the toughest fields it will see this fall.
Ramey entered the day with a 69.00 scoring average on the young season and used a birdie-eagle-birdie on the 14th, 15th and 16th holes at the Old Overton Club in the Birmingham suburbs to match that clip. His 142 card tied him for 13th at days end.
Texas is currently atop the leaderboard after carding a 11-under-par 549. The
Longhorns are led by true freshman Jordan Spieth with a 6-under-par 134. Spieth
is tied with Corbin Mills of Clemson as the field leader.
Senior Alex Rowland and redshirt freshman Tyler Smith both managed to post pars during the second round to finish at 146 and 148, respectively. The duo is within striking distance of a Top 25 finish.
Senior Lee Heaton notched a 77 and 72 on Monday while sophomore Barrett Edens turned in a 78 and 74 in his first action of the fall.
"I was proud of the way we came back from a poor start to shoot a 281 this afternoon," MSU coach Clay Homan said. "It shows what we are capable of as a team, but we must get off to better starts. Playing the first three holes at 13-over as a team is not acceptable. If we start tomorrow like we finished today, we will make some moves up the leaderboard."
