Day One Complete At Seminole Invitational

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Mississippi State men's tennis team completed the first day of action at the Seminole Invitational in Tallahassee, Fla., picking up three singles victories in the process.
"There were positives and negatives from the day," said assistant coach Matt Hill. "There are still some areas we need to improve on but I was pleased with the effort and look forward to improving tomorrow."
In Draw A for singles play MSU's senior Chris Doerr made his fall debut and picked up his first win, taking down Bethune-Cookman's Greg Streat in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3, in the first round. Also in the first round of Draw A singles action, sophomore Max Gregor Smith was victorious over Aroon Khatter of Jacksonville in a two-set bout, 6-2, 6-0. In the round of 16 in Draw B singles action, junior Tanner Stump of MState defeated Central Florida's Mario Samson in identical sets, 6-4, 6-4.
In the round of 16 of Draw A singles, the Bulldogs' Doerr slipped up to Billy Federhofer of Florida, 6-3, 7-5, and Smtih went down against South Florida's Mark Oljaca, 7-5, 6-1. In Draw B singles round of 16, Mississippi State's sophomore Hrehan Hakeem fell to Keith Embree of hosting-Florida State in a tight three-set battle, 7-5, 2-6, 6-4.
In MSU's lone doubles match of the day, the Bulldog tandem of Doerr and Hakeem was defeated by Johnan Beigart and Blaze Schwartz of Central Florida, 8-4, in the round of 16 in Draw A for doubles.
State's Doerr, Smith and Hakeem will resume play on Saturday in consolation play, while Stump will advance to the quarterfinals of Draw B singles to take on Harold Williams of Florida A&M. MSU's team of Smith and Stump will make their debut at the Seminole Invitational in Draw B on Saturday.
