OXFORD, Miss. - Mississippi State saw its series-best six-match win streak over Ole Miss snapped Friday night. The Rebels (14-4, 4-3 SEC) turned back the Bulldogs (6-10, 1-6 SEC) 3-1, winning 30-22, 30-28, 22-30, 30-27.
The Bulldogs got a match-high 18 kills from junior Cristina Jucan, who added 13 digs to record her team-leading eighth double-double of the campaign. Two other Bulldogs reached double figures in kills - 11 each by Jamie Joyner and Ioana Demian.
UM opened the match hitting a sizzling .438 in the opening set and leading by as many as 11 at 26-15 en route to a 30-22 win. The Rebels used a 5-0run to erase a mid-game MSU lead in game two and held off a late State rally. A kill by Jamie Joyner pulled the Bulldogs to within a point at 26-25, but UM out-pointed MSU down the stretch 4-3 to claim a 30-28 win and a 2-0 match lead at the break.
The Bulldogs led throughout the third set to stay alive with a solid 30-22 win. But UM regained momentum with a 6-2 start to the deciding fourth game and again held off an MSU charge to seal the match with a 30-28 win.
Caitlin Weiss recorded 14 kills to lead a foursome of Rebels in double figures. UM out-hit State .208 to .155 and held a 68-54 lead in kills.
Megan Lukasek turned in a career-best 26 digs to pace MSU's defense. Lauren Kowal paced MSU at the net with five total blocks. Erin Seago followed with four.
The Bulldogs resume their two-match SEC Western Division road trip Sunday in Baton Rouge, La., with a 1:30 p.m. match a No. 20 Louisiana State.
