Beginning her first season on the Mississippi State volleyball coaching staff Lindsay Shondell.
A native of Muncie, Ind., Shondell joined the MSU volleyball coaching staff as an assistant coach in January 2008 after serving in 2007 as an assistant volleyball coach at Samford University in Birmingham, Ala.
At Mississippi State, Shondell oversees the training of Bulldog setters and coordinates the team defense. She also assists with the operations of the MSU volleyball skills camps, works with team travel and opponent scouting, practice planning and MSU volleyball alumni relations.
At Samford, Shondell helped direct coach Michelle Durban’s Bulldogs to 16-13 finish, the firt winning campaign at SU in 20 seasons.
The MSU assistant coach is a 2007 graduate of Purdue University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology/anthropology with a minor in communication. While at Purdue she was a three-year regular as a setter, helping lead the Boilermakers to NCAA Volleyball Tournament appearances in three consecutive seasons. Both the 2005 and the 2006 Purdue volleyball editions advanced to the NCAA’s Sweet Sixteen.
Shondell as an extensive background in club volleyball as both a player and a coach as well as with volleyball instructional camps and clinics. She began her club volleyball career with the Asics Munciana Volleyball Club in Muncie, playing on teams from 1990 to 2002.
Prior to launching her coaching career at Samford, she served as an assistant on coach Mike Lingenfelter’s 18-Elite Asics Munciana Volleyball Club. She also worked as a court coach from 1999 to 2002 under Dr. Don Shondell on the 12-and-under training program for the Muncie club. She served as head coach of the 13-Elite team at the Raider Volleyball Club in West Lafayette, Ind., after directing the 12-Elite RVC teams in both 2004 and 2005. Additionally, she served as an instructor in the volleyball camps at Purdue from 2003 to 2005.
Shondell prepped at Muncie (Ind.) Central High School, where she was a four-year regular as a setter on the MCHS volleyball team from 1998 to 2001. As a frshman and sophomore she played on teams that captured the state volleyball championships and capped her prep career earning all-state honors as a junior and senior. She signed with Cal-State Fullerton following her prep career before transferring to Purdue in 2003.
Shondell, who serves as an instructor at satellite volleyball camps throughout the region, enjoys reading and writing poetry in her spare time.
