Jeffery Hicks begins his first season with the Bulldog volleyball program after serving as an assistant coach with the men’s and women’s volleyball program at Pfeiffer University.
Hicks will serve as a Coordinator of Volleyball Operations and assist with MSU’s video and statistical DataProject systems.
Hicks was most recently at Pfeiffer University, a Division II school in Misenheimer, N.C., in a dual role as an assistant coach of both the men and women’s volleyball programs. During his time there the program won it’s second consecutive Conference Carolinas Men’s Volleyball Championship. That squad featured the Conference Player of the Year, tournament MVP, two all-tournament honorees, five all-conference players, two academic all-conference players and 14 student athletes landing on the Conference Carolinas Presidential Honor Roll. The team ran one of the most efficient offenses in the country finishing No. 1 statistically in NCAA Division I with 4.24 kills per set as well as No. 2 for points per set with 4.98 and No. 6 nationally with 10.74 assists per set. The program also received several university athletics awards.
Currently, Hicks is a statistician with our USA Men and Women’s National Sitting Team that trains at the Olympic Training Center on the University of Central Oklahoma campus. In August 2013, Hicks was a crucial part of the staff of the Women’s National Sitting Team in their first major international competition in Moscow, Russia. The team claimed first place as it defeated No. 1 China in the finals, which marked the first time second-ranked USA had ever beaten the 2012 London Game Gold Medal Champions.
Hicks previously served as the head coach for the Mercer club volleyball programs, as well as varsity team manager for the women’s program. Hicks rebuilt and revived the men’s and women’s club programs at Mercer, served as the head coach for the women’s club team and saw the men’s team improve to being a top team in the southeast region. He gained experience as an event manager in the marketing department with travel and sports accounting. For the women’s inaugural NCAA Sand Volleyball season, he served as the Bears’ Director of Operations.
He has served on the volleyball camp staff at Emory as well as a team leader with Quantum Learning Networks Supercamp at Wake Forest and Stanford.
As a player, Hicks was a pin hitter for the Mercer Bears men’s club team. In his prep days, he was a multisport athlete in wrestling and baseball. Hicks has a Bachelor of Business Administration with an emphasis in sports and music management from Mercer.
