A left-handed walk-on, Christopher Gay joins Mississippi State for his final season of collegiate elgibility. He previously spent two seasons at NAIA member William Carey College in Hattiesburg, Miss prior to transferring to MSU in 2006. Last year, he served as a basketball team manager for the Bulldogs.
WILLIAM CAREY COLLEGE:
Sat out the 2004-05 season at William Carey as a redshirt... Recorded 11 points (4-14 FGs & 3-9 FTs), three rebounds, three assists and two steals in 14 appearances (73 total minutes) as a redshirt freshman for coach Steve Knight's 2005-06 WCC Crusaders... Connected on both shot attempts and hit his lone free throw effort to tally five points, along with pulling down a rebound, against Houston Baptist in his second collegiate appearance... Made his only field goal try, along with being credited with a rebound and a steal, versus LSU-Shreveport... Also had two-point outings against West Florida and Loyola University.
HIGH SCHOOL:
Three-year basketball letterman for coaches Kyle Roane and Tommy Sumrall at Forrest County Agricultural High School in Brooklyn, Miss... Earned all-division honors as a senior for the Aggies after averaging 15.3 points, 4.7 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game... Tallied a career-high 28 points versus West Marion during his senior year... Other 2003-04 season highlights included 22 points, 10 rebounds and six assists against Petal, along with 20 points, 10 boards and six assists versus Stone County... Averaged 11.0 points, 5.2 assists and 2.3 rebounds an outing as a junior to earn honorable mention all-division honors and help lead the 2002-03 Aggies to a 25-4 record and a conference championship... Posted season-high scoring efforts of 18 points against both Prentiss and Lumberton during his junior year... Three-time all-division cross country performer at Forrest County AHS... Claimed the individual cross country division championship as a junior.
