
State Welcomes No. 25 South Carolina for Senior Day Ahead of No. 1 Georgia Matchup

STARKVILLE, Miss. - No. 55 Mississippi State women's tennis returns to Starkville for its final home match of the season, hosting No. 25 South Carolina Gamecocks on April 9 before hitting the road to face No. 1 Georgia on April 11 closing out regular season play.

The Bulldogs enter the week following a pair of road losses. State fell to No. 45 Ole Miss, 4-3 on April 2 before dropping to a 4-0 decision at LSU on April 4.

Thursday's match will also serve as Senior Day, as Mississippi State honors graduate Alessia Tagliente for her impact on the program.

Tagliente has totaled 33 singles, and 37 doubles wins in her career while earning multiple honors, including the 2025 ITA Southern Regional Cissie Leary Sportsmanship Award, and Blue Gray Classic Sportsmanship Award recognition. She has also excelled in the classroom, earning SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll honors and ITA Scholar-Athlete.

Mississippi State sits at No. 55 in the latest ITA team rankings. In doubles, three Bulldog pairings remain nationally ranked. Chiara Di Genova and Charlotte Kempenaers-Pocz lead the way at No. 11, giving State a top-15 presence. Gianna Oboniye and Kempenaers-Pocz rank No. 31, while Athina Pitta and Oboniye hold steady at No. 37.

South Carolina enters Starkville following a 4-3 victory over Kentucky. The Bulldogs and Gamecocks met last season, with South Carolina earning a 4-2 win. Mississippi State's last victory in the series came in 2015 with a 4-3 win in Columbia.

Georgia will face Alabama on April 9 before hosting Mississippi State to close out the regular season. The opposing bulldogs enter the week after a sweep of Tennessee. Mississippi State is still seeking its first win in the all-time series against Georgia. Last season, Georgia claimed a 4-0 victory in Starkville.
