No. 15 MSU Rallies Late To Take Super Bulldog Weekend Series
April 25, 2026 | Baseball
STARKVILLE - A Super Bulldog Weekend crowd that already ranked among the sport's all-time best got the kind of finish it came to see Saturday night.
No. 15 Mississippi State erased a five-run deficit with a five-run seventh inning, then held off LSU for a 9-8 win before 15,289 fans at Dudy Noble Field — the third-largest on-campus crowd in NCAA Baseball history.
Jacob Parker delivered the swing that shook the ballpark. With the Diamond Dawgs trailing 7-3 in the seventh and the bases loaded, Parker jumped on a 2-0 pitch and drove it over the right-field wall for a game-tying grand slam. The blast capped a five-run inning that turned a frustrating night into one of the signature moments of MSU's season.
State (33-10, 12-8 SEC) won despite falling behind 3-0 in the first and 7-2 in the fifth. LSU (24-20, 6-14) scored three times before the Bulldogs came to the plate, getting an RBI double from Omar Serna Jr. and a two-run homer from Cade Arrambide.
Mississippi State answered in the bottom half when Ace Reese hit his 14th home run of the season, a solo shot to right-center that trimmed the deficit to 3-1.
The Bulldogs got another run in the fourth after Blake Bevis singled, moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on Aidan Teel's double to right-center. LSU, however, stretched the lead in the fifth. Arrambide added an RBI double, and Edward Yamin IV followed with a three-run homer to right to put the Tigers ahead 7-2.
That lead held until the seventh, when Mississippi State finally broke through against LSU's bullpen. Gehrig Frei singled, Reese followed with a base hit and Noah Sullivan loaded the bases with another single. Bevis walked to bring home Frei and make it 7-3.
Parker did the rest, launching his eighth homer of the year and sending the Super Bulldog Weekend crowd into a frenzy as the Bulldogs tied things up.
State added two crucial runs in the eighth. Reed Stallman led off with a pinch hit double down the right-field line and pinch-runner Gatlin Sanders scored on Sullivan's RBI single. Frei later scored on an LSU error to extend the lead to 9-7.
Those runs mattered. Serna Jr. hit a solo homer in the ninth to pull LSU within one, but Maddox Webb came in and got the final two outs for his third save.
Jack Bauer (3-0) earned the win with a strong relief effort for MSU. The freshman flamethrower struck out eight over 3 2/3 innings, allowing one run on three hits after entering in the fifth. Duke Stone started for the Bulldogs and allowed seven runs over 4 2/3 innings.
Grant Fontenot (0-1) took the loss for LSU after allowing two runs, one earned, over two innings.
Reese finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI, while Sullivan went 2-for-5 with an RBI. Bevis drove in two runs, and Parker finished with four RBIs on one swing.
LSU got three hits and two RBIs from Serna Jr., while Arrambide drove in three runs and Yamin IV added three RBIs.
Mississippi State was out-hit 11-9 but the Bulldogs took advantage of seven walks, three LSU errors and one towering swing from Parker to turn a packed Dudy Noble Field into a late-night celebration.
The Diamond Dawgs will go for the sweep on Sunday at 1 p.m. on SEC Network+. MSU will send sophomore southpaw Charlie Foster (0-2, 5.17 ERA) to the mound while the Tigers have yet to announce their pitching plans.
