Milewski Walks It Off For MSU In the 11th Inning
April 24, 2026 | Baseball
STARKVILLE - Kevin Milewski blasted a two-run walk-off homer in the bottom of the 11th inning Friday afternoon, lifting No. 15 Mississippi State to a wild 10-8 victory over LSU in the opener of Super Bulldog Weekend before a raucous crowd of 13,489 at Dudy Noble Field.
With the game tied after the Diamond Dawgs erased multiple deficits, Bryce Chance opened the 11th with a single through the right side. Two batters later, Milewski drove a 0-1 pitch over the wall in left field, sending MSU streaming out of the dugout after nearly five hours of back-and-forth baseball.
The win pushed Mississippi State to 32-10 overall and 11-8 in SEC play, while LSU fell to 24-19 and 6-13 in league action.
State had to rally all afternoon after LSU struck first with a three-run opening inning. Omar Serna Jr. delivered an RBI single, Steven Milam added a run-scoring hit and Mason Braun brought home another with a groundout for the Tigers' early 3-0 lead.
The Bulldogs answered immediately in the bottom half when Blake Bevis crushed a two-run homer to left-center, scoring Ace Reese and trimming the deficit to 3-2. Reese later added a solo shot in the third, and Noah Sullivan launched another solo homer in the fifth as Mississippi State kept chipping away.
LSU appeared to seize control again with a three-run fourth inning. A Mississippi State error allowed one run to score before Milam lined a two-run single up the middle that was compounded by another throwing miscue, giving the Tigers a 7-3 advantage.
But the Diamond Dawgs refused to fade.
MSU scored once in the fourth on Gehrig Frei's RBI single, then manufactured two more in the sixth without recording a hit. Ryder Woodson scored on an error before Sullivan was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and Bevis followed with a sacrifice fly that tied the game at 7-all.
LSU moved back in front in the ninth when William Patrick singled home Braun for an 8-7 lead, but the Bulldogs answered in their final at-bat. Woodson ripped a two-out RBI single through the left side to score pinch-runner Gatlin Sanders and force extra innings.
Mississippi State's bullpen then took over. After starter Tomas Valincius was chased in the fourth, five relievers combined to hold LSU to one run over the final 7 1/3 innings. Dane Burns worked a scoreless 11th and earned the win to improve to 2-0.
Bevis finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs, Sullivan drove in two runs, Woodson had the tying RBI, and Milewski's lone hit was the biggest of the day. Chance scored twice and set up the game-winner with his leadoff single in the 11th.
Milam went 2-for-5 with three RBIs for LSU, while Serna had three hits and two RBIs in defeat.
Game 2 of the series is scheduled for Saturday night at 6:30 p.m. on ESPN2. Duke Stone (6-1, 3.78 ERA) will take the mound for the Diamond Dawgs while LSU counters with a sophomore right-hander of its own in William Schmidt (4-4, 4.14 ERA).
