McCloyen Takes Down Program Record On Day Two

CLEMSON, S.C. – Mississippi State track and field concluded competition at the Bob Pollock Invitational, hosted by Clemson, earlier this afternoon.
"The team had a solid final day of competition," said head coach Chris Woods. "We are happy with the way the athletes responded to adverse conditions. We need to focus on technical aspects over the next couple of weeks, with the next competition weekend being another opportunity for improvement."
Day two of competition began in the men's shot put, where Roury McCloyen threw 19.56m for a new personal best and indoor program record. His mark adds nearly a whole meter from his previous best and places him in the top 10 nationally in the shot put.
Action continued in the women's shot put, where Tafada Wright threw 14.33m to extend her fifth-place spot on the program's all-time top five list.
Sam Navarro competed in his first 800m race of the season, earning the event win and a new personal best of 1:48.36.
Manie Mevo earned the second event win of the day in the triple jump, landing at 12.93m for a new personal best and the second furthest jump in program history.
The day concluded in the women's 3000m, where Nelly Jemeli clocked in at 9:20.12 for a second-place finish and the second-fastest time in program history over the distance.
Overall, the Bulldogs earned 21 personal bests across two days of competition.
State will return to Clemson in two weeks to compete in the Tiger Paw Invitational, with half of the team set for the Music City Challenge, hosted by Vanderbilt.
