State wins 11-2.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Mississippi State's bats provided Bulldog pitchers Ben Davis and Ryan McPherson plenty of offense as MSU slugged its way to an 11-2 win over Northeastern at the Tallahassee Regional on Friday. The Diamond Dawgs scored three times in the second inning and four more times in the third to take a commanding lead and roll to a winners' bracket matchup against host Florida State on Saturday at 5 p.m. CT.
Bryce Chance had a single-game career high four hits, and Joe Powell drove in four runs – two on a third-inning homer – to fuel the State offense. Noah Sullivan also clubbed a two-run long ball for the Bulldogs.
Gatlin Sanders chipped in with a couple of hits and three RBIs to aid his team's cause as MSU snapped Northeastern's 27-game winning streak that entered Friday as the nation's longest active streak.
Davis and McPherson were stellar for State on the mound. Davis drew his first start in more than two months and earned the win as he pitched five solid innings, allowing only one earned run and striking out three. Davis improved to 4-2 for the season.
McPherson earned his third save of the campaign as he shut down the Huskies over the final four frames. McPherson didn't allow a hit or run and struck out three to lock down the State victory.
