April 13, 2025 | Women's Golf
STARKVILLE – The defending SEC Champion and 20th-ranked Mississippi State Bulldogs return to Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Florida, for the 2025 SEC Championship. The tournament will kick of on Monday, April 14.
The SEC Championship kicks off with three rounds of stroke play. The top individual after stroke play will be named the SEC Individual Champion. After Wednesday, the top eight teams will be seeded and advance to the match play portion of the championship, with the last team standing being named the 2025 SEC Champions on Friday, April 18.
The Bulldogs look to continue their recent success in the tournament. State has won the individual title the past two seasons. As a team, the Bulldogs have advanced to the final match the past two years and brought home their first team title last season.
State's lineup will feature three golfers with SEC Championship experience, while two Bulldogs will be competing in the conference's top event for the first time.
Avery Weed will hold the top spot in the Bulldog lineup. The sophomore from Ocean Springs, Mississippi has led the Bulldogs with two individual victories on the 2024-25 season. She shoots a team-best 71.88 average and is only 6-over versus par on the entire season.
Izzy Pellot will tee off in her third SEC Championship, the most of any Bulldog on roster. Pellot was an important part of bringing the program's first Championship home last season, as she went 3-0 in the match play portion of the tournament last season. Pellot has carded five rounds in the 60s this season, the most in a single season of her career, and earned a career-best finish of third at the PDI Intercollegiate in February.
Samantha Whateley will make her first appearance in the SEC Championship. Whateley has had a solid sophomore season at State. At the Chevron Collegiate, she recorded her best career individual finish of third at 10-under par, which was also her best tournament score of her career.
Chiara Horder will compete in her final SEC Championship, shooting fourth in the State five. Horder has carded nine par or better rounds this season, the most she has carded in a single season in the Maroon and White. She has finished inside the top 20 three times this season.
Ana Pina Ortega will round out the Bulldog lineup in Belleair. She will be competing in her first SEC Championship. The senior has had her best season as a Bulldog, competing in seven of State's nine tournaments this year, the most she has played in a single season. During that time, she is shooting 72.78, which is the best average of her career and second-best on the team this season. She has turned in par or better rounds in 10 of 18 played and has recorded three rounds in the 60s.
