State Drops Game 2 To No. 12 Alabama

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Gehrig Frei led off the game with a home run for Mississippi State on Saturday.
However that would be the only run the Bulldogs would score, falling in a low-scoring affair 4-1 to 12th-ranked Alabama at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.
State (21-14, 4-10 SEC) had nine hits on the afternoon led by Frei and Ace Reese each going 2-for-4. In addition to his leadoff homer, Frei also contributed a double while Reese collected a pair of singles. Noah Sullivan also recorded a double to bring his team-best total to 11.
Evan Siary started on the mound for State, earning four innings of work with four strikeouts and allowing only two walks and two runs. He took the loss in his first decision of the year. Ben Davis came in for the remaining four innings of relief, fanned two and walked none.
Alabama (29-7, 8-6 SEC) also finished with nine hits to even the series.
On Deck:
Mississippi State will conclude its series with the rubber match against the Crimson Tide on Sunday at 1 p.m. and will be streamed on SEC Network+.
The Bulldogs have senior right-handed pitcher Karson Ligon (3-4, 5.83 ERA) set to start on the mound. Alabama will go with redshirt sophomore righty Tyler Fay (0-0, 4.91 ERA) for his first start of the season.
