Bulldogs Welcome No. 2 Gamecocks For SEC Home Opener

STARKVILLE – Mississippi State is set to host their first televised match on Sunday, as they welcome the defending national champion South Carolina Gamecocks to Humphrey Coliseum. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. on the SEC Network.

Mississippi State dropped their SEC opener at No. 16/16 Kentucky.
The Bulldogs and Gamecocks will face off for the 47th time on Sunday.
South Carolina leads the all-time series 27-19. In matchups that occur in Starkville, State leads 11-8.

The Bulldogs closed out their non-conference schedule with a 95-47 victory against South Carolina State. Six Bulldogs scored in double-figures for the first time this season.
State closed out the non-conference schedule with a 13-1 record, which is the best start to a season since 2018-2019, where those Bulldogs ended their season in the Elite Eight.
In three season, Sam Purcell has gone 17-16 in SEC play. He needs just five wins to earn the most SEC and overall wins of any head coach in their first three years at the helm at Mississippi State.
Mississippi State currently leads the SEC and ranks fifth in the nation with a 33.1 field goal percentage defense.
State is also third in the conference and 19^th in the nation in scoring defense, allowing just 54.5 points per game.
Madina Okot leads the nation in field goal percentage (71.6). She has shot above 70 percent in nine of her last 11, taking five or more shots in each of those matchups.
State has played their best ball of the season at the starting points of each half. State is outscoring opponents by 98 points in the first quarter and by 118 in the third.
Debresha Powe made her return to the floor for the Bulldogs against Kentucky after missing two games. She leads the conference and ranks ninth in the nation with a 47.5 three-point percentage.
