Bulldogs Drop SEC Opener In Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Mississippi State fell in a hole against the No. 16/16 Kentucky Wildcats and could never overcome, as the Bulldogs dropped their SEC Opener, 91-69.
The Bulldogs (13-2, 0-1 SEC) saw their opposition shoot 54.5 from beyond the arc in the game. Heading into the half, the Bulldogs trailed by 14. Throughout the third quarter, the Bulldogs hung around with the Wildcats, as State went on a 7-0 run. However, State was unable to continue that momentum.
Jerkaila Jordan led the Bulldogs in scoring, as she picked up 17 points, the 11th time she has scored double-digit points this season. Eniya Russell and Quanirah Montegue each picked up 13 points. Russell scored in double-figures for the second time this season, while Montegue set a new SEC-best scoring performance. It marked the second time this season and third time in her career that Montegue scored 10 or more.
Destiney McPhaul finished with 10 points and a team-leading six assists, along with two steals, which also led the team alongside Jordan. Chandler Prater picked up a pair of blocks for State, her season-high in that category.
The Bulldogs will be back in action when for their SEC home opener against the No. 2/2 South Carolina Gamecocks. The contest is set to broadcast on the SEC Network at 1 p.m. CT.
