April 13, 2024 | Women's Tennis
STARKVILLE – Mississippi State closes out its regular season with a showdown with Missouri at noon on Sunday at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre.
Following the match, the Bulldogs will honor team captains Alexandra Mikhailuk and Chloé Cirotte as part of their Senior Day celebration. Mikhailuk and Cirotte have combined to win 212 matches during their respective careers.
Mikhailuk ranks in the top 10 in MSU history in career singles wins, career doubles victories and total combined triumphs. The Canadian graduate has 67 career singles wins and is tied for 10th all-time with MSU Hall of Famer and current Northwestern head coach Claire Pollard (1986-89) in that category.
Mikhailuk also has 58 doubles victories, which is the ninth-most in MSU history while her 125 combined wins are the seventh-best total in school history.
Cirotte notched her 50th career singles victory last Sunday at now 17th-ranked Tennessee and has totaled 87 triumphs during her four-year career. She was also recently tabbed to the prestigious Phi Beta Kappa Society, an honor that only goes to MSU's best and brightest undergraduate students majoring in arts and sciences.
Chris Hooshyar's Bulldogs (10-15, 0-12 SEC) are coming off a 6-1 loss to Arkansas on Friday. Maria Rizzolo obtained State's lone victory and now leads the team with 14 singles wins this year.
Dharani Niroshan and Alessia Tagliente have been the Bulldogs' top doubles tandem this season, totaling 10 wins together.
Missouri is also winless in league play at 0-12 and sports a 5-20 overall record. The Tigers have lost 10 of their last 11 matches, including a 4-0 loss at No. 38 Ole Miss on Friday.
State leads the all-time series against Missouri 9-4, including a 5-1 mark in Starkville.
